Michael J. Rourke grew up in Ohio with an early ambition to protect individual legal rights through advocacy. He completed his undergraduate studies at The Ohio State University in 1978, graduating summa cum laude with distinction. He subsequently earned his Juris Doctor cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1981.
Following his admission to the bar in 1981, Rourke began his legal career at a major law firm in Columbus, handling complex civil litigation and personal injury matters. In 1987, he transitioned to a leading plaintiffs' personal injury firm as a trial lawyer. In 2002, he co-founded Rourke & Blumenthal LLC, establishing a firm dedicated exclusively to representing injured plaintiffs.
Over his career spanning more than four decades, Rourke has tried over 100 jury trials in courtrooms across Ohio and recovered hundreds of millions of dollars on behalf of clients. His practice concentrates on severe and catastrophic personal injury claims, including medical malpractice, commercial trucking and vehicle collisions, product liability, workplace intentional torts, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord trauma, and wrongful death.
Rourke is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and holds memberships in professional organizations such as the American Board of Trial Advocates, the International Society of Barristers, the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum, and the American Association for Justice. He also serves on the board of the Ohio Association for Justice and has served on the Leader Forum for statewide trial advocate groups. Recognized repeatedly in *Best Lawyers in America* and *Super Lawyers*, Rourke has also been designated multiple times as "Lawyer of the Year" in medical malpractice for Central Ohio.
